November 25th(week12)

For the week 12, we have learnt about the property on the first hour of the lecture. This concept is very familiar to all of us in our daily life. Everyone has the property to use every day, no matter it is the common one or the private one. Without the property, our life seems pretty boring. In order to protect our property, which is created by ourselves, we should use the trademark, patent and copyright for those properties. In my point of view, we should learn how to protect our property with the legal process. For the second part of the lecture, the filter has been introduced, which is just like the video. We also had the quiz about it, which were just similar questions as the introduction video.

For the most challenge part of this week, the project really confused me for a while. I just went through all the relevant videos and worked it out finally. However, there still has one question confused me a little bit.  When I typed out all every on the Dr. Racket for the “blinky” one and ran it, there was nothing happen for hitting the key of “r”, “g” and “b”. After that, I just send it to my partner and she ran it. It worked really well. Both of us changed nothing for it. Although it worked in the end, I still want to know how this thing happened.

November 26(week 11)

For the week 11, we have learnt the privacy of computers. In my point of view, this part is related to our normal life, so it is very easy to be understood. Based on the development of the technology, such as privacy's plumbing, we are able to share lots of staffs online. However, your personal information may get dangerous during the sharing procession. In order to protect our privacy, the passwords, pins and the security software have been updated frequently. In our life, we need to be careful about our personal information in different ways in order to make it more secure. In the second part of the lecture, the flatten recursion has been taught, which is just similar to the video online. However, when I came to the practice, “apply max” made me confused a lot. After the research and answering from the TA, I made it clear right before the quiz. In my opinion, the quiz questions were a little bit challenging. The lists were more complicated than the practice. I was not pretty sure if I did it correctly for the third question. When I get my quiz back this week, I will see how it goes. When I made the mistakes of any questions, I will try to answer it by myself at first. If it still doesn’t work, I will ask TA about it. After that, I will never find this part difficult again, which means the mistakes will not be made in the final exam.

November 19(Week 10)

For this week, it was really a busy week for the midterm preparation. All my effort has been put to the review for lecture slides and notes. In the lecture, we talked about the effects of technological development among people’s work. In my point of view, there was no challenge for this lecture. It is very easy to understand the effect of technological development, because the development still continues in our everyday life. Based on the development of computers, people’s work gets much easier. The workload has been released and the company should consider more on the time of the work. The reason is that the working time will influence the working efficiency and decision making based on the workers’ cognition. However, there will be more problems to be considered. For instance, the location of the work and so on will become an important factor for employment.

For the midterm, the Dr. Racket part is pretty much the same as the tutorial works, which I have reviewed for a long time before the exam. However, the challenging part is the question asked about the history and opinions from mine. During the preparation, I used the longer notes and lecture slides to try to remember and understand all of the history that we had learnt. After that, I just put most of the history onto the aid sheet. Even though, I still felt like it was a little bit hard for answering those kinds of questions. In order to solve this problem, I will start to remember and understand the history parts weekly right after the lecture. The review will be done more often. After that, I am going to search more information about what we learnt, so that I will get to know and understand it more. It will be much easier to write more my own opinions of it in the test. I hope I will do better in this way for the final exam.

November 11th(Week 9)

During this week, we learnt about the network connection. It is amazing that people get to know the computer system really well and they can figure out the different connections for the different systems. It is very interesting to know how each connection works. For the Dr. Racket part, we’ve learnt about the recursion. It can be seen as the simplification of a complicated procession. When I watched the video by myself, I could understand them easily. However, when I used the Dr. Racket to run the system, it always displayed failed. After that, I checked the language that I typed for several times. I found that a missing right bracket in the middle of a sentence caused the mistake. The detail is really important for the computer language. When I use the Dr. Racket next time, I am going to thin k about each sentence carefully. Counting for the bracket in each sentence might be a good idea in order to make the sentences accurate. If there is one mistake, you won’t get the result that you need. So I will be as careful as possible when I make the sentences in the Dr. Racket, so that the mistakes can be reduced in the future.

November 3rd(Week 8)

For the challenge of this week, it must be the project named sneeze. Although it is not a really hard project, there still have some difficulty of it. The definition of left-cycle really confused me, when I did the project. Two tests always failed for my definition. I watched the videos about introduction of the list in Dr. Racket and tried my best to work it out. After watching the videos for several times, I noticed that only two lists could be appended together. If you just put first and rest of the same list together, they couldn’t be appended to be one list. From the experience of doing the project, I can learn a lot from the procedure. In order to solve the problem, we need to review a lot of things and get the new information from what we have learnt before. After we work it out, we will feel very proud of ourselves.
For the lecture, we have learned the development of the computer operating systems. I got to know more of the systems that we were using nowadays. The video of applying the list and changing parameters in a condition were easily to be understood. However, when we change parameters, it should be careful about using the result from the last step and the new result we are getting for.

October 27th(Week 7)

During the lecture this week, we have learnt the history about Neumann. In my point of view, it is a very interesting part. I learnt the process of it and how it worked. However, the crease pattern in Dr. Racket made me a little bit confused. The reason is that the languages are too long to be remembered. What I am going to do is to learn and review more Dr. Racket languages in order to get used of it. For the other challenge, I think the quiz was a little bit difficult compared with the past quizzes. It needed us to describe the result rather than just draw something. I have already learnt the video before class. However, my focus of the video was just about how to make the result rather than noticing what came out. In order to avoid this question, I am going to focus whatever appears from the video and understand every description from it. In addition, watching the video for several times are still very important for understanding the Dr. Racket languages.
